Now and again, I’d stumble across a brunch cafe that hides itself from the eyes of the wanderers. The Last Piece offers a diversified menu that features many delicious tasting dishes through a variety of both traditional and healthy eats.
This local Melbourne brunch place is situated in Mulgrave and behind it features a full football stadium where the Hawks (Hawthorn) often come to train. So ladies (and some men), shall we hit two birds with one stone?
The restaurant is quite spacious inside, my favourite spot would have to be the back terrace overlooking the football oval. The ambient is busy and bustling during breakfast and lunch time hours, the restaurant is pet-friendly as owners sit with their pets infront or out the back. Eating your breakfast food with a bit of sunshine and light breeze streaming down your face while sipping down a green smoothie is probably the best feeling on a Saturday when you need a bit of TLC.
Pictured below is the dishes on my recent visit. Dishes displayed includes:
- The Big Boy Breakfast (2 fried eggs, bacon, chorizo, confit mushrooms, tomato & 2 hash browns on sourdough): this traditional big breakfast includes all the standard goodness you would expect for a weekend kickoff. I thoroughly enjoyed sinking my teeth into the crispy hash browns which was cooked at a good level. Eggs, bacon and mushrooms were standard.
- Nutrition Bomb smoothie (bonsoy, vital greens, raw cacao, almond, dates, linseed, activated almonds, coconut flakes, sunflowers seeds, chia seeds, manuka honey & banana): description tells all. Very hearty shake, flavours didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended.
- Mushroom Delight (2 poached eggs, tri colour quinoa, basil pesto, mixed mushrooms, spinach, grilled haloumi + candied walnuts): I wouldn’t usually opt in for a healthy quinoa option when I’m on a mission for some hearty brunch, but I decided to be good that day and got this somewhat healthy choice and did not regret my decision (the haloumi topped it off). The flavours went well with the candied walnuts.
Linguine marinara (king prawns, squid, fish pieces, chilli, basil, heirloom tomatoes & olive oil): this was chosen during an earlier visit, so far my favourite dish I’ve tried at this restaurant (I LOVE my pasta) as everything was cooked to perfection, the pasta – al dente! Prawns were fresh and cherry tomatoes blended well into seafood. The food coma is well worth it after. Highly recommended.
- The juices were:
DANNY GREEN (kale, apple, lime, ginger + celery)
ACE VENTURA (watermelon, apple, strawberry + mint)
both were delicious.
